Dust Album Reviews

Musik Express

April 12, 2024 Frank Sawatzki

5/6 Stars

“The fact that the very first song on Hansen's second full-time album SALT is a lavishly orchestrated escape from silence is the most beautiful twist on this collection of consistently beautiful songs and sound paintings.”

“Many have tried their hand at combining acoustic folk and electronic experiments. But only rarely does the fusion succeed as easily and beguilingly as with Marla Hansen.”

“Marla Hansen's voice always has an incredible radiance, the arrangements are clear and transparent, sometimes downright touching in their sparseness.”

Marla Hansen Lets the ‘Dust’ Sparkle

"Singer-songwriter Marla Hansen creates a mesmerizing new album. Dust, as a whole, shimmers and sparkles like dust in the bright light."

Wunderschön Wärmend

"Die US-Amerikanerin Marla Hansen hat eine der schönsten Singstimmen überhaupt."

Music Won’t Save You

March 2, 2020 - Raffaello Russo

“All this makes "Dust" a work with a thousand facets, which song after song does not fail to give surprises and variations, all managed with great class and with a dose of elements oriented to moderate experimentation, without losing sight of the compositional immediacy and the melodic aspects of songs resulting from evident maturity of writing. The long wait has therefore been fully rewarded and today delivers the profile of an all-round artist.” (translated from Italian)

Triste sunset

April 1, 2020 - Peppe Trotta

“Moving to Berlin, a city from which she extracted further sound influences, the American musician found the right dimension to refine and close her new musical journey by releasing an album that stands out for its melodic richness and the accuracy of the arrangements.” (translated from Italian)

Saabrücker Zeitung

August 6, 2020 - Andreas Lüschen-Heimer

“Here, too, there are fantastic melodies that are channeled directly into the heart of the listener by a very organic set of instruments and an extremely confidence-inspiring voice.” (translated from German)

Haberl remains on the drums for the finale - but with strings, wind instruments and singer Marla Hansen, things take a completely different turn: charming chamber pop is developed, with Hansen accompanying herself first on the viola and then on the guitar. A wonderful evening that is all too rare in Freiburg.

Musik blüht wie eine Blume

“Whether Hansen plucks a viola like an acoustic guitar or switches to the guitar, music sometimes blossoms for her like a flower that can be blown around by every breath of wind, and sometimes like a human flesh-eating plant that grows and bursts unpredictably and domineeringly in songs.” (translated from German)
